Dan Singh Bhandari is a former member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from Bhimtal. He represented the Bhimtal constituency in the Assembly from 2012 to 2017. Bhandari joined the Congress party in 2016 after winning the Bhimtal Assembly seat on a BJP ticket in 2012. In the 2017 Assembly polls, he contested on a Congress ticket from the Bhimtal seat but came third after Independent Ram Singh Kaira and BJP's Gopal Singh Bisht. He lost the election with a huge margin despite receiving substantial support from senior Congress leader Harish Rawat. Bhandari made headlines in August 2021 when he and others went on a hunger strike in the Bhimtal constituency to demand development. He left the BJP again when the party decided to field Ram Singh Kaira from Bhimtal.
