Hailing from Orange Free State, South African Dean Elgar is a left-handed batsman who made his first-class debut for Free State in 2006. He was included in the team at the start of the Afro-Asia Cup in 2005 and was immediately named as their captain. His middle-order batting propelled the selectors to retain him as South Africa’s captain in the 2006 Under-19 World Cup in Sri Lanka. It was in 2012 that he made his international debut against England; however the ODI was washed out due to rain. Later that year, he was called up to the South African Test squad for their series against Australia. Elgar had a forgetful first, as he was dismissed for a duck in both innings of the third Test at the WACA, Perth.
